Garmin's and Squirrel's

My Garmin stopped on me this morning. I don't know why, but I'm really mad about it. Now wait a minute: Is the Garmin why I run? I don't think so! However, I have come to rely on it like I have to have it to run at all. I feel that way about my iPod too. What's up with me anyway? I got mad on Monday when the batteries on the iPod had gotten so low that I had to plug it in to recharge and didn't have it for my run. But I ran anyway! Maybe I need to go back to how I started running, before I got all the cool things to hang all over my body, and see how that feels. I don't really want to zone out while I'm running, because I need to listen to what's going on with my breathing and any pain I might be having. I don't think pushing through is always the best thing any more, and that might have come with age. So now I feel like I'm at the crossroads of running for some strange reason. I will have to think on this one and get back with you on thoughts and reasons.
On to the new exciting thing going on in the backyard—squirrels! We have two, I think. They all look alike to me. They have found the bird feeder, and I am now on a mission to upset their apple cart. I started by letting the cat out. His eyesight is so bad that I don't even think he sees them. And they know it! Now Gracie, on the other hand, is a pro at sneaking and running after them. I open the main door so she can stick her head out the doggie door. She gets halfway through and freezes. SQUIRREL! And off she goes. I know that she thinks she is going to catch one some day, but I don't think she has thought it all the way through. What the heck do you do with a squirrel after you catch it? Well, if you’re my dad, you haul them into the campsite down from the house and hope they don't find their way back home again. But Gracie hasn't thought it through, and she can't drive and doesn't know where to take them if she did. So I think we'll hang the feeder on a shepherd’s hook to see if that makes them mad enough to leave. Things that make you go, “Hmmmm.”

I'm the same way with my garmin. It's like, if I'm not wearing it to record everything, the run just doesn't count.

Obviously untrue, but I can't help it.
