The Right Stuff!

I have found out a huge thing that I want to share with all seven of you who follow my blog. There is a “righter” way to tie your shoes! I proclaimed this to my husband the other day, and he just shook his head and probably wondered when I was going to get a job. I found out that most people tie their shoes with a granny knot, which has the tendency to come untied. A granny knot will cause the laces to lie up and down your shoe.
The correct way to tie your shoe is with a reef knot, which becomes tighter as the shoe is worn, and the laces lie across your shoe. You will see in the picture that the shoe on the left is a granny knot and the shoe on the right is a reef knot. If you find yourself tying your shoes with a granny knot, here is how you change it.  Start off as you normally do, make your loop and stop. When you bring the lace around the loop, go in the other direction than what you normally do and finish up. If you did it right, your laces will be lying across your shoe. I cannot tell you how excited I am about this new discovery! It's like I have been living in a cave or something. To be honest, I have often found myself looking at others shoes and wondering why they were tied so nicely. Now I know, and I'm going to tell everyone I know about it. So give it a try and see if you are a granny or a reef knot-tier. It's never too late to learn a new trick!

On the groin front, I would like to report that after the three miles I did on Saturday, I thought I was going to kick someone. I started to really listen to some of the devotions that God was bringing up to me with things like rest, “this is my doing” and stuff like that. Monday and Tuesday, I spent 30 minutes on the elliptical, and Wednesday, I was on the bike. I got brave today, stepped onto the evil treadmill, said a prayer and told myself this was going to be an easy run. I am excited to report that I did three miles in about 35 minutes with the run/walk method, and while I felt some discomfort, there wasn't pain! I will be leaving tomorrow and won't be able to do much until my return on Monday, so I see that as a rest time. If I were going to be around this weekend, I would probably try to push it. It is hard for me to see people out on the road running, but I am hoping that I'm learning this lesson and will be back out there in a short time.

Your Mom and Pop did not teach you to tie your shoes that way
