And Can it Be

Is anyone as hot as I am? Can you tell that summer has grabbed a hold of us and won't let go? This was the shortest pickling season ever in the history of me making pickles! One week, that's it! Everything is burnen up, so I guess I have all the pickles done that are getting done this year. Case closed.

Had a great time this past week at Aldersgate and spent a night in Wilmore, saw some folks and headed on home to melt. One of the things that I came away with from the conference with was how hungry and thirsty people are to have the Holy Spirit in their lives. The worship time was really the highlight for me and I know now why. It reminded me of the worship Preacher man and I had for three and a half years at Asbury! The sad part is, the way we worship at Asbury and at Aldersgate, is not the way we worship in the church. I'm going to go out on a limb and say, that this is an issue with a large percent of the UM churches out there. It's all about getting out in time to go to Sunday school or lunch. After you put in your weekly hour with God, it's on to our self absorbed-ness. In fact, we can't even do it for an hour. When the preachen starts, so does the clock watchen! We were in worship for two hours in the morning and two hours in the evening! It was awesome! God was pleased! People are hungry for that kind of worship and most of them don't even know it, cuz they have never experienced it in the first place. To be over come and undone by the Holy Spirit is the way I want to live daily! But in our churches, we are too worried about counting how many heads showed up, making everyone feel comfortable, entertaining not en-filling, keeping everyone focused on Jesus Loves You and not Jesus is calling you. We aren't being challenged, made to feel uncomfortable or expected to DO anything. If someone lifts theirs hands to the Lord in surrender to His presence, they are looked on as one of the crazy's. If tears comes during a song, we don't see that as the healing of the Holy Spirit, we see that as job well done singers. When was the last time your breath was taken away by the moving of the Holy Spirit? When was the last time you asked God to speak to you and then you really stopped and listened? If your not putting in the time with God, to learn what His voice sounds like, how are you going to know it's His when you hear it? We are so use to our drive through mentality that we do that for worship. "OK God, you got this hour, so get to it!" Forgive us Father, for the thing we have let worship become!

Worship = Reverent honor and homage paid to God. Not, entertain me! Honor God!
