Interview

I had another good-bye breakfast this morning followed by a video taped interview with JD Walt where he asked Alex and I some questions about our time here at Asbury. As much as you think you know what to say and how to say it, it never stops amazing me that God shows up and you take the high road. What's up with that? Between the two of us, Alex and I know a lot about how this place really works, him being the President of Student Council and me, a past employee. So when the question came up about what can they do better here, we asked JD if he really wanted to know what we thought. Then we were filled with grace and said things about honesty and being transparent. I was happy it didn't get ugly.
One of the other questions that JD asked was where did you meet Christ here at Asbury. That was pretty easy for me, mainly because I go out looking for Him. I told JD that I meet Christ in chapel when the worship was right on. Now it's hard for me to explain what right on means without you having been here and experienced what happens when we sing. Keep in mind the men out number the women by a pretty good margin so there is that deep manly sound that resonates through out this place, which is enough to give you Holy Spirit bumps as it is. But when we sing what has become known as the Asbury fight song we rock the place! That song is "And can it be" by Charles Wesley, the song writing brother of John Wesley, the founder of Methodistism. My favorite verse is as follows:

Long my imprisoned spirit lay,
Fast bound in sin and nature’s night;
Thine eye diffused a quickening ray—
I woke, the dungeon flamed with light;
My chains fell off, my heart was free,
I rose, went forth, and followed Thee.
My chains fell off, my heart was free,
I rose, went forth, and followed Thee

This friends, says it all about Asbury for me. I have meet the living Christ here. The chains that held my heart shut off from others has fallen off and I am free to follow Him. This has been a hard road, at times, to travel but one that I am glad we went down! I am sure that when we sing this fight song at graduation on Saturday that I will shed some tears, but they are tears of joy over this place and time we have had here! So friends don't console me, join in with me in the celebration that Christ does live in our hearts and we are going on from here to follow Him.

You said it all and yep, I have and will cried tears concerning my stay at ATS and now your collective journey at ATS. It will be a beautiful day...like the cherry on the whipped cream on a ton of the best ice cream in the world!
Where is my head? My love to you and Alex.Beth
